THE COTTER AVENUE

Public BBQ

The Honyong Walking Trail to Cotter Dam Lookout offers a surprisingly rewarding bushwalk that combines gentle exercise with genuine wildlife encounters. The track meanders along a slight incline that's challenging enough to feel worthwhile without requiring mountaineering credentials. Kangaroos appear with reliable frequency, families grazing alongside the path have become something of a trademark, and emus occasionally make an appearance for those paying attention. The dam wall itself serves as both destination and viewing platform, where visitors can walk across the top whilst taking in the reservoir views. The elevation gain proves comfortable for most fitness levels, making it accessible to families and casual bushwalkers. The barbecue facilities near the trailhead provide a practical endpoint for those who've worked up an appetite, though the real appeal here lies in the combination of modest physical challenge and the likelihood of spotting native wildlife against the backdrop of functional 1960s water infrastructure. Nothing extraordinary, but thoroughly pleasant.
